In India, writing circles are centers of liberation as they are for us here at Catherine College. Hence, there will be much to share together in the three anticipated writing circles that will bridge cultures and national boundaries. Dr. Vaijayanti Gupta writes as follows:

The literary landscape of India is one of the most exciting, yet daunting and complex ones in the world, with over 18 officially recognized languages, over 400 dialects and a 5000 year old culture that has evolved differently in different regions of the country. Throughout the region's history, women have excelled at literature, but writing has traditionally been regarded the domain of men. As elsewhere in the world, women's writing in India has been multi-faceted, but often persisting secretly and sometimes in defiance and pain. . . . (www)

What day/time do your prefer to meet online?

We anticipate three distinct writing circles, each with six to eight participants, which will be meeting for a 90-minute online session each week. Participants spend an additional 90 minutes each week working online at a time of their own choosing. The three writing circles will be meeting online during the following time-slots:
(a) Thursday Circle (9:30 a.m. Oregon time, 12:30 p.m. Ohio time, 10:00 p.m. India time);
(b) Friday Circle (3:30 p.m. Oregon time, 6:30 p.m. Ohio, 4:00 a.m. Sat. in India);
(c) Saturday Circle (7:00 a.m. Oregon time, 10:00 a.m. Ohio, 7:30 p.m. India); first session = April 12th.

Women Writing for (a) Change offers a creative writing experience that supports the lives of women for whom writing is, or is becoming, an important liberative and spiritual practice. This class takes the proven techniques designed by Mary Pierce Brosmer and offers them within a cross-cultural online context. We anticipate three distinct writing circles, each with six to eight participants, which will be meeting for a 90-minute online session each week for eight consecutive weeks. Participants spend an additional 90 minutes each week working online at a time of their own choosing. Each session is conducted by intensively trained and certified graduates of the Feminist Liberation Academy. 3 cr.hrs. See what former participants were saying.

Non-returnable Tuition Policy

Given the purposeful size and composition of each class, anyone dropping out or falling behind in a given class reduces the learning for all concerned. At times, however, we understand that one might have to drop out or fall behind due to unforseen and tragic circumstances. We regret to say, however, that tuition cannot be returned in this instance due to the fact that mentors and tutors have been hired and potential students have been turned away. In the case where someone needs to leave a class due to unforseen and tragic circumstances, they can receive a partial credit toward a future class if they notify their tutor or the Registrar of their circumstances in a timely fashion.
