Choosing your first course

Our courses have been divided into two distinct categories for the sake of convenience.

  • Some courses focus more directly on development of one's own person. They aim at giving you personal skills, freeing you from inhibitions and enabling you to help and guide others.
  • Other courses focus on realities in our world. They reveal aspects of history, culture, religion and society that have a bearing on the situation of women.

All our courses benefit from our dynamic method of study.

If you are new to online learning

If you have never taken an online course, our staff would recommend that you consider participating in our class, Developing an Authentic Personality. This short course is especially designed for those who want (a) to explore their readiness for online learning and (b) to taste the innovative and interactive learning at Catherine College. This course enables you to explore how to hear and respond to your own inner voices in the face of religious, cultural, and family expectations. Click here for details.

If you're new to academic study

If you're new to academic study or haven't studied for a while, our staff would recommend that you consider participating in the five-week class, Developing an Authentic Personality. This five-week course is especially designed for those who want (a) to explore their readiness for online learning and (b) to taste the innovative and interactive learning at Catherine College. This course also enables you to get in touch with your inner goals and to define your energies for following your dreams. Click here for details.

How much time you need

From the start you should plan to set aside sufficient time to benefit fully from each course.

Credit Hours (USA) Credit Points (UK)

To give you some idea of the time you need, bear in mind that, regardless of the category the course belongs to, a standard 10-week course for 3 credit hours would require three hours of online work each week.

A course that carries 1 'credit hours' therefore needs minimally one hour of study for ten weeks. If the course runs only five weeks, however, this means that one will need 2 hours of online study each week.

This makes clear why it is usually not a good idea to take on two or three courses at the same time.

To give you some idea of the time you need, bear in mind that, regardless of the category the course belongs to, it takes approximately 10 hours of study for each credit point.

A course that carries 5 'credit points' therefore needs approximately 50 hours of study. If the course is spread over 10 weeks, you have to plan for 5 hours of study a week.

This makes clear why it is usually not a good idea to take on two or three courses at the same time.
