The purpose of the Catherine College scholarship program is to reduce financial barriers that prevent women and girls from participating in our courses.
Such barriers operate especially in developing countries where some potential students may live near the poverty line. We are aware that heavy burdens may also rest on a number of deserving women living in the West.
Catherine of Siena Virtual College aims to raise the standards of women by enabling them to strike out in new paths and assume new responsibilities. While we badly need the support of those students who can afford to pay, we would not want to see any deserving student excluded from our courses for financial reasons.
What financial support is available?
At present we can offer two types of support:
a full scholarship--which exempts you from paying the tuition fee we normally charge for a course;
a partial scholarship--a reduction of your tuition fee depending on your circumstances.
When applying for financial support towards course fees you will need to submit the application up to 3 weeks before the closing date for registration. This is so we can assess your eligibility and let you know how much support you will receive before you register.
Are conditions attached to receiving a scholarship?
Scholarships, whether full or partial, are given on the understanding:
that the recipient is committed to "fully participate" throughout the duration of the course;
that the recipient assists us to make our Virtual College known, and
that s/he helps recruit future participants to the extent possible.
Applying for a scholarship
To request financial assistance, please write an email (see below) to our scholarship committee with the following information:
What course have you selected? What brings you to be interested in this course at this time in your life?
How much time would you be able to devote to this course each week during its duration?
What sort of internet access will you be using? Will you be renting time at an internet cafe or using a home computer?
What are the results of Test #1 and Test #2 done on your computer system?
What is the size of your family? What is the total annual income of all members of your family? Briefly explain why you require partial tuition assistance or a complete scholarship (100% reduction). If we are unable to offer a complete scholarhip, what percent of the tuition could you pay without endangering the well-being of yourself or members of your family.
Please list any courses (academic or otherwise) that you have taken in feminist studies and in religious studies and in commercial studies. List them in order of their contribution to your personal growth and development.
Once you personally discover the merit of our classes, would you be willing and capable of urging persons in your locality to take one of our courses.
