The Aims of our College

For thousands of years women have suffered from the consequences of social prejudice. This applies both to civil and religious realms. Our world is still suffering from the consequences.

Liberation must ultimately come from a new self-awareness among women themselves, a self-awareness fostered by knowledge and insight.

In the West many women - by no means all - have the opportunity to benefit from enlightened highschool or college studies that fulfil this function.

In developing countries these opportunities often do not exist. The Internet offers new channels. It crosses boundaries and provides new facilities for study and self education.

Catherine of Siena Virtual College offers courses that will empower women to understand their own situation better and to free themselves from unwarranted cultural limitations.

These courses will also enable men to serve all members of their communities more effectively.

Our Virtual College aims at reaching out to these groups:
a. Women in developing countries who study in universities and colleges but who have no access to good courses on women’s issues. By enrolling in one or two of our courses, they will benefit from the best international scholarship while receiving academic credit for such studies.
b. Women training for leadership roles in society or religion, such as teachers, politicians, social leaders, etc. who would profit from studying the specific female angle of belief and social service.
c. Women in later life with access to the internet who want to update themselves on the latest thinking and research regarding women’s issues.
d. Men such as social leaders, lecturers and teachers who want to equip themselves for better service to their female family members, co-citizens and students.
